Courtland Smoot: Director of Bands

Courtland Smoot, a seasoned musician and devoted educator, currently serves as the Director of Bands at Luella High School. His journey began at Alcorn State University, where he played saxophone in the renowned “Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite” Marching Band and Wind Ensemble from 2006 to 2011. He also served as Student Music Arranger and Student Conductor.
Beyond performance, Courtland’s passion lies in shaping young musicians. His teaching career spans several districts, including the Natchez-Adams School District, Holmes County School District, Jackson Public Schools, Yazoo City Municipal School District, South Delta School District, and the Vicksburg-Warren School District. As an Assistant Band Director, he honed his understanding of music education. Now, as a Director of Bands, Mr. Smoot works to leave a lasting impact on students, fostering both skill and character.
Mr. Smoot’s educational philosophy emphasizes inclusivity, adaptability, and lifelong learning. Whether on the podium or in the classroom, he conducts more than just music—he conducts inspiration.

Roslyn Evans is from a small town just (54) miles South of Tallahassee, Florida, called "Perry, Florida." she has always had a big heart for the youth and the elderly. She began her love for arts at an early age. Evans has been a Henry County residence since June 2005, after being a civic supporter of the United States Armed Forces as a formal military wife (Navy) for more than 20 years, and former Federal Police Officer for the Department of Defense. Evans currently approaching 10 years in Henry County Public School system and pushing every day to inspire our youth to be all they can be while guiding them to be successful.
Evans serves in several capacities at Luella High School. First, being the Public Safety Lead teacher for the Henry County CTAE program, Public Safety teacher at Luella High School, Mock Trial Team Sponsor, and the Auxiliary Sponsor for both majorettes and color guard. On her off-time, she works as a film producer, professional actress, screenplay writer and Logistics Trucking Company owner.
